The story of a wealthy family, who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together...it's Arrested Development. At least it was, until 2006 when Fox pulled the plug on this beloved series that despite widespread acclaim failed to produce the numbers when it came to viewers. It was just too unique and ahead of it's time to survive on Fox, in fact they must be credited for keeping 'AD' on as long as they did because the figures were never good.
"I just blue myself"
But enough about the past, in early 2013 an unspecified amount of episodes will be streamed through Netflix with each episode focusing on a different member of the family, showing what they have done in the time that has passed since they were last all together. This is an interesting concept and makes sense considering all the actors are unlikely to be free at the same time. The plan is for this mini series to then set up a movie, which again makes a lot of sense to re-establish what the series is and who the characters are.
Now we have hugely successful comedies like '30 Rock', 'Community' and 'Modern Family', which would have suffered a similar fate to 'AD' had they been made round the same time because they have somewhat similar styles of comedy. There has been a clear change in what is regarded as funny for mainstream audiences, so 'Arrested Development' should have no trouble slotting back into the world of television (or streaming...whatever).
Just for the sake of it here are a selection of 'AD' moments:
